Road DepartmentOur mission is to provide the residents of Gulf County with safe, courteous and quality services to maintain our community. The Gulf County Road Department is responsible for all aspects of roads and bridges in Gulf County. We maintain approximately 164 miles of paved roads and 96 miles of dirt roads. Some of the road maintenance we perform includes right-of-way mowing, surface patching, road grading, signs, painting, culvert installations, maintenance of bridges, guard rails, shoulders and drainage. The Road Department has 19 full-time employees which consists of: • 1-Superintendent • 1-Assistant Superintendent • 1-Staff Assistant • 1-Shop Foreman • 1-Master Mechanic • 1-Mechanic I • 1-Mechanic II • 2-Equipment Operator I • 2-Equipment Operator II • 2-Prison Crew Foremen • 1-Tractor Operator I • 2-Tractor Operator II • 2-Truck Driver I • 1-Truck Driver II The Road Department has a fleet of equipment which includes heavy-duty dump trucks, motor graders, excavators, mowers, loaders, trash pick-up truck, tractors and numerous other pieces of equipment that helps us to work more efficiently and get the job done each day. County vehicle maintenance is performed at this location. If you need to have a county vehicle serviced or repaired, please call the Shop Foreman -Steve Shiver to make an appointment. Reservations for the Honeyville Community Center are made at this location. If you would like to rent the building for an event, please call Staff Assistant - Sherry Paul and she will be glad to help you. A Gulf County Roadway Culvert Permit must be obtained before work can commence on County R-O-W's. The permit may be purchased at either the Road Department in Wewahitchka, FL or the Building Department in Port St. Joe, FL. There is a $50.00 fee for the permit. Once the permit has been purchased, a representative from the Road Department will come out to evaluate the site and determine the culvert diameters and elevation. Effective June 29, 2004, the Gulf County Road Department will no longer install culvert pipes for driveways. The property owner will be responsible for the culvert installation and the Road Department should be notified as to when the work will begin.
